Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) paid a visit to Tan Cang 99 at Tan Cang - Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT)

On May 11th 2023, within the framework of a business trip to Vietnam, HE. Mr. Kitack Lim - Secretary - General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) visited and worked with Tan Cang Hai Phong International Container Terminal (TC-HICT) belonging to Saigon Newport Corporation. The visit showed IMO’s interest in the development of Vietnam's maritime industry. The Secretary - General highly appreciated the development, capacity and potential of Vietnam in the development of the maritime industry in which seaports are an important link.

Saigon Newport Corporation strives to improve and upgrade infrastructure and equipment to match the green development of the world according to the commitment of Vietnam’s Government to COP26 on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and CO2 emissions.

Recently, Saigon Newport has converted the energy of equipment using electricity and renewable energy at major ports. According to Decision No. 428/QD-TTg, dated April 21, 2023, the Prime Minister approved the investment policy and at the same time approved the Saigon Newport Corporation as the investor of Wharf No.7, No.8 of Lach Huyen area.

On this occasion, Tan Cang Northern Maritime (TCM) is honored to introduce the operation of the company's tugboat fleet with HE. Mr. Kitack Lim. The Secretary - General was impressed when visiting Tan Cang 99 tugboat - the first commercial ship that DAMEN handed over to a Vietnamese customer. He appreciated the modern design and machinery and equipment of Tan Cang 99 with a high degree of automation according to European standards which is designed to reduce NOx emissions, meeting IMO Tier II standards. The interior of the crew's living area is in compliant with the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC).

Tan Cang 99 tugboat handed over by Damen to Tan Cang Northern Maritime (TCM) in April 2022 is among the largest and most modern tugboat in the world. Tan Cang 99 tugboat has the ability to operate flexibly with high manuverable performance. The tugboat can be used as habor tug, escorting and participating in firefighting or oil spilling response service thanks to its FiFi1 system as well as joining other offshore activities. The tugboat is also designed to reduce NOx emissions, meeting IMO Tier II standards, contributing to the construction of a "green port" of Hai Phong port area in the future.
